PROCESS
An employee in an FTE, temporary grant or time-limited position, scheduled to work at least 20 hours a week and who is a member of a Reserve component of the Armed Forces, member of the Coast Guard, National Guard, or South Carolina State Gaurd is eligible for up to 15 days of paid Military Leave in a calendar year, for the purpose of attending further training or military schools. When an employee is recalled to active duty in response to a designated Emergency, there may be additional leave policies governing those conflicts. The employee will be responsible for ensuring that their department is given a copy of their military orders.

If an employee is ordered to duty for an extended period of time, beyond the 15 days of military leave, they may have to request an Extended Leave of Absence (without pay) (LWOP). The employee will need to complete the LWOP request form and forward it to their department for processing. This form can be found at the link listed below.

Employees who are members of a Reserve component of the Armed Forces, member of the Coast Guard, National Guard, or South Carolina State Gaurd will normally have their leave processed on a calendar year basis. Employees will have one opportunity to switch from the calendar year processing to the military fiscal year which begins October 1 and ends September 30 of each year. The request to change to a fiscal year status must be processed in writing, endorsed by the employee's department and forwarded to Human Resources for review and processing.
